The handmade White Deer Tactical Polycarbonate Damascus Fixed Blade Knife was created by forge welding multiple layers of steel into a solid block called a billet (15N20 & 1095 high carbon tool steel). The billet is folded and re-welded several times to produce several layers, and patterns are created by manipulating the steel during the forge welding process. When acid is added to the blade of the White Deer Tactical Polycarbonate Damascus Fixed Blade Knife, it attacks the layers of hard and soft steels differently, highlighting the attractive layered pattern in the steel. The combination of layered hard and soft steel creates blade flexibility, toughness and produces invisible serrations on the blade that aid in cutting. The hardness of the Damascus steel is 55-60 HRC on the Rockwell scale. The handle grip on this White Deer Tactical Polycarbonate Damascus Fixed Blade Knife is totally clear and see-through, and the tang is all forged Damascus steel. You can clearly see the pattern of the forging process on both the blade and tang at any given time. A 1/2 inch thick sheet of Polycarbonate (aka Lexan or Makralon) is bullet resistant and capable of stopping a standard 9mm bullet fired from a pistol, so you know it is tough stuff. Some knife enthusiests prefer the clear Lexan grips so they can remove the grip and place a customized motif piece underneathe that would be visible through the clear handle.
